[00:02:41] <arti> ooo craft beer?
[00:03:20] -!- sfm [sfm!~45a6494c@69.166.tn.so] has joined #Soylent
[00:04:10] <BadCoderFinger> Not really, Coronado's Islander IPA.
[00:04:23] <BadCoderFinger> Really good, I recommend it highly.
[00:04:45] <BadCoderFinger> A very malty IPA, much more like a Scottish Ale than something found on an island.
[00:05:24] <BadCoderFinger> If they'd put pine needle tips in, it would be a Scottish ale.
[00:05:29] <arti> sounds really good, my adventure will be getting some sugar cane juice >.>
[00:05:34] <arti> i'm on a sugar kicker
[00:05:40] <arti> donuts lastnight/today
[00:05:48] <BadCoderFinger> Heh!
[00:05:55] <arti> had some guiness last night though
[00:06:00] <BadCoderFinger> Ever had sugar cane straight from the plant?
[00:06:07] <arti> that's what i'm getting
[00:06:18] <BadCoderFinger> Ah, Guinness. The One True Stout (tm)
[00:06:30] <arti> fresh pressed, this place has good qc on their sugar cane
[00:06:51] <arti> it's ridiculous, plus they do popsicles and stuff, just opened their store close by, used to catch this couple at the farmer's market
[00:07:24] <BadCoderFinger> That sounds kinda cool, actually.
[00:07:53] <arti> at another place i'd visit (like a city over) was pretty good, but i like this mix since they add ginger to it
[00:08:32] <arti> i might make a suggestion that they make the ice out of it too, that way it doesn't get watered down :U~
[00:08:54] <arti> wild that it gets perverted into refined sugar
[00:09:01] <chromas> use sugar cubes
[00:09:20] <BadCoderFinger> chromas: Gah! Blasphemy!
[00:09:51] <TheMightyBuzzard> HFCS is just as good
[00:09:59] <BadCoderFinger> Ew!
[00:10:22] <BadCoderFinger> It's great until diabetes sets in and blinds you.

[00:12:17] <arti> sugar cane doesn't spike sugar levels as much, due to how it's absorbed through the liver rather than the small intestine
[00:12:35] <arti> also it's absorbed slower
[00:12:49] <TheMightyBuzzard> wtf good is that? i want my rush.

[00:13:36] <TheMightyBuzzard> newp. i'm a regular coke guy when i drink coke.
[00:13:36] <Landon> who wants a sugar rush when you have adderall
[00:13:47] <TheMightyBuzzard> Landon, me apparently
[00:14:08] <arti> pretty neat find landon
[00:14:34] <Landon> I can't bring myself to do javascript anymore
[00:14:40] <TheMightyBuzzard> i let the adderall wear off around noon and go the rest of the day without it so i can stay on it longer before becoming desensitized

[00:14:49] <BadCoderFinger> Bugger coke lime. If my drink is fizzy, it's probably beer.
[00:15:04] <Landon> I'm thinking about doing that now that I'm on IR

[00:16:31] <arti> just over corn syrup stuff here, as much as possible
[00:16:39] <Landon> I was just reading that mexican coke is especially made for the US nowadays

[00:17:08] <Landon> no, as in _our_ mexican coke is different than sold in mexico mexican coke
[00:17:22] <BadCoderFinger> Yeah, sadly true.
[00:17:31] <arti> less lead?
[00:17:42] <TheMightyBuzzard> maybe, i know a mexican restaurant that gets theirs shipped in though.

[00:31:38] <Ethanol-fueled> I have an idea.
[00:31:40] <BadCoderFinger> TheMightyBuzzard: Nice! Give us the recipe!
[00:31:54] <Ethanol-fueled> that came almost verbatim from Full Metal Jacket
[00:32:04] <TheMightyBuzzard> when i get done, hungry.
[00:32:06] <Ethanol-fueled> "Niggers, Kikes, WOPs, Greasers"
[00:32:19] <Ethanol-fueled> That was a quote from a movie. That makes it okay to post here.
[00:32:23] <BadCoderFinger> Ethanol-fueled: The movie that kept me from joining the military.
[00:33:06] <Ethanol-fueled> BadCoderFinger - wise choice. My dad was in the marines, actually went through bootcamp during Vietnam, and he said the bootcamp portion of the movie was 100% faithful
[00:33:31] <Ethanol-fueled> He said the DI's caught a recruit stealing underwear from another and they held him down and put out a cigarette between his eyes.
[00:33:35] <BadCoderFinger> I asked my psych teacher what boot camp was really like. He said pretty much just like that movie. I said, "Not for me then."
[00:34:00] <Ethanol-fueled> I went through Air Force boot camp, which ain't that hard.
[00:34:16] <BadCoderFinger> Ethanol-fueled: Yeah, it's the shortest.
[00:34:27] <Ethanol-fueled> The worst part was by far having to go through much of it being sick as fuck from being pumped by like 10 vaccines in the first week.
[00:34:52] <BadCoderFinger> By any odd chance, did you get kicked out for having flat feet?
[00:35:02] <Ethanol-fueled> Nope.
[00:35:28] <BadCoderFinger> Ah. Had a friend, and that's why he got booted. After boot camp, of course.
[00:35:47] <BadCoderFinger> Rather bitter about it, too, which I never understood.
[00:36:13] <BadCoderFinger> I'd seen Strangelove, so I knew that the Air Force wasn't for me either.
[00:36:56] <Ethanol-fueled> I think anybody who cares about their future should join the navy...or the air force, if they're over 21 and squeaky-clean.
[00:37:07] <BadCoderFinger> Why?
[00:37:11] <Ethanol-fueled> Not slamming the Army or Marines, but there's lot more risk there.
[00:37:19] <Landon> desk pilots
[00:37:21] <Landon> vrooooooooom
[00:37:26] <Landon> shuffle those papers, soldier!
[00:37:30] <Ethanol-fueled> BadCoderFinger, because the Navy is the best combination of actual military experience and technical training.
[00:38:11] <Ethanol-fueled> The Air Force is pretty much a civilian job in a uniform with the occasional deployment or drill, but they are very strict and don't take no shit.
[00:38:13] <BadCoderFinger> Maybe. I'm not convinced. The commercials show a lot that will never happen.
[00:38:35] <Ethanol-fueled> You fuck up once in the Air Force and everybody's up your ass.
[00:38:40] <BadCoderFinger> If you plan to work DOD, then Air Force is the start.
[00:38:54] <Ethanol-fueled> The Navy tolerates fucking up more, and the Army and Marines even more.
[00:39:18] <BadCoderFinger> Yeah, I had a college prof that was a former Marine.
[00:39:23] <Ethanol-fueled> The Navy actually has better technical training in many cases. And a lot more real-world exprience and travel.
[00:39:41] <BadCoderFinger> Somewhat. My brother was in the Navy.
[00:40:01] <Ethanol-fueled> My mom was in the army, dad and one uncle in the marines, Grandpa and uncle in the Air force. Plus I was in the Air Force.
[00:40:12] <BadCoderFinger> I wouldn't call my brother well trained.
[00:40:38] <Ethanol-fueled> BadCoderFinger, even if you don't get technically trained well, you still have the G.I. bill and a decent resume and benefits when you get out.
[00:40:48] <Ethanol-fueled> Which can definitely set you up for a real career.
[00:40:57] <BadCoderFinger> Oh yeah, he got a clearance, and a cushy DOD contract.
[00:41:41] <Ethanol-fueled> I loved the technical aspect, but I hated the rules. Not being able to smoke dope drove me crazy. Plus I was stationed at a base with a pretty shitty M/F ratio.
[00:41:51] <BadCoderFinger> I'd hardly call that a real career, though. He just can't get fired.
[00:42:02] <Ethanol-fueled> Haha, well, whatever pays the bills.
[00:42:28] <Ethanol-fueled> Military can set you up for a bitchin' future if you're motivated. I wouldn't recommend staying in past 1 enlistment term though.
[00:42:46] <BadCoderFinger> You're supposed to jump on the worst crap base you can find. Then your next post will be Hawaii, or something cool like that.
[00:43:26] <Ethanol-fueled> BadCoderFinger, that is bullshit.
[00:43:47] <Ethanol-fueled> I knew a guy who did all 20 of his years in Texas bases.
[00:44:04] <Ethanol-fueled> They pick you for TDY deployments if they like you. Those are considered plum.
[00:44:06] <BadCoderFinger> Ew. Texas is its own special Hell.
[00:44:59] <Ethanol-fueled> Another thing about the Air Force is that all the technical jobs that have openings are usually on shit bases like where I was stationed -- Seymour Johnson AFB.
[00:45:34] <Ethanol-fueled> If you want a cool job like space systems you're gonna have to wait for a slot to open while your recruiter is constantly up your ass to hurry up and go in as something else.
[00:46:01] <Ethanol-fueled> What I would recommend is getting an available generic job, like I.T., where you can be stationed at pretty much any base, learn technical skills, and have the best of both worlds when you get out.
[00:46:08] <BadCoderFinger> Holy crap, if there's one thing I've learned as a contractor, it's how to work the recruiter.
[00:48:28] <BadCoderFinger> You already know you are the product. You get them to sell you.
[00:48:54] <BadCoderFinger> They're pretty motivated to get you placed, so you can be picky about it.
[00:49:14] <Ethanol-fueled> yeah, but if you don't pay attention and they're a sheisty recruiter, you can be fucked into a shit job
[00:49:39] <BadCoderFinger> That's true, but I've developed a finely tuned bullshit detector.
[00:50:17] <BadCoderFinger> You already know they are lying to you. So you get your location in the contract.
[00:52:48] <BadCoderFinger> Somebody coming in green, though, they want to believe. They'll work 80 hours a week at a startup.
[00:53:05] <BadCoderFinger> Or pulling cables at McMurdo.
[00:55:08] <Ethanol-fueled> what is mcmurdo?
[00:55:37] <BadCoderFinger> Antarctica.

[20:04:15] <TheMightyBuzzard> we put a bug in to find that kinda stuff out but it only works for http
[20:05:07] <arti> my curiousity revolves around what users use to acces the site with, if the vast majority have recent browsers that'll influence things
[20:05:31] <janrinok> TheMightyBuzzard: standby while the clock ticks down to release time - a few minutes
[20:06:44] <TheMightyBuzzard> arti, not really. NCommander and paulej72 are kinda set on being able to use the thing via lynx if you really want to.
[20:06:59] <janrinok> The colours in the Story List don't match up with the real site - but if the colour grey is the same then it indicates that all those stories are held and will not release.
[20:07:50] <TheMightyBuzzard> yeah, it says so on account of "This story will not appear because no topics in any nexuses are selected."
[20:08:45] <TheMightyBuzzard> and i can't get it to take one from admin.pl
[20:09:37] <janrinok> There is definately a bug - it loses whatever nexus and section you have selected as soon as you press update/save as appropriate
[20:09:45] <TheMightyBuzzard> nod nod
[20:10:25] <janrinok> That has only appeared in the last 24-36 hours. It was working yesterday morning if I recall correctly, certainly on Friday.
[20:11:04] <TheMightyBuzzard> NCommander, ^^ any thoughts?
