[00:03:32] <takyon_> alright, starting my boil of 4 gallons of water
[00:03:54] <takyon_> I can only imagine how long that will take, unless I break out the physics formula
[00:12:37] <paulej72> depends on your burner output
[00:13:16] <paulej72> need one of those turkey friers to boil water
[00:16:08] <takyon_> well I've spent hours cleaning and getting stuff ready, what's a couple more?
[01:09:15] <TheMightyBuzzard> takyon_, quarter the orange and boil it with the other flavor shat then strain it out and just put the flavored water in
[01:09:36] <takyon_> k
[01:10:47] <TheMightyBuzzard> i usually do that in a one gallon pot. quicker and less water to chase stuff around but whatever blows your skirt up
[01:11:02] <takyon_> still boiling about 4 gallons of water. probably around 175*F. I think I will need less water than what I got since the 15 lbs of honey itself takes up as much as a gallon of volume. So I will pour in most of the boiling water and then set it right back on the stove to do the oranges+cloves
[01:12:41] <TheMightyBuzzard> that should work
[01:13:56] <takyon_> for my bucket I cut a hole in the top, laid on some densely folded cheesecloth, and then taped it on top with painter's tape. Luckily I have the second lid with no hole in it to seal the bucket while it cools overnight
[01:14:07] <TheMightyBuzzard> cinnamon too if you have it. goes good with the cloves n citrus
[01:15:02] <TheMightyBuzzard> yeah, that'll probably work. i usually just leave the lid off entirely and drape a clean towel over it
[01:17:09] <takyon_> I'll have to roll without the cinnamon this time. I have an impressive amount of cloves though... 6.12 oz. So if I add 1 clove per gallon, I'm using like 0.1% of it
[01:17:27] <TheMightyBuzzard> just keep in mind about them crushed campden tablets. they go in while it's hot. gives them time to off-gas and be cleared out by the time you're ready to put your yeast in.
[01:17:45] <TheMightyBuzzard> put em in right before and you'll kill your yeast.
[01:18:00] <takyon_> IIRC you have me putting them in again in secondary
[01:18:00] <chromas> Put some chicken bones in there too. May as well be making stock while you're at it :D
[01:18:32] <TheMightyBuzzard> takyon, right before you rack it off into bottles, yep. to kill any residual yeast or other microbes.
[01:18:45] <takyon_> ah gotcha
[01:19:02] <TheMightyBuzzard> right before = 24h before so it has time to work and clear out.
[01:20:34] <TheMightyBuzzard> honestly, i usually forget the campden tablets while it's hot and end up having to wait an extra day to pitch the yeast.
[01:20:51] <takyon_> just about time to transfer the boiling water
[01:21:21] <TheMightyBuzzard> have fun n be careful

[01:43:22] <takyon_> I guess I'm not going to add yeast nutrient since the yeast packet I got supposedly has all that stuff included
[01:43:32] <takyon_> I have a choice of lemon juice or malic acid
[01:54:17] <Bender> [SoylentNews] - Your Client List is Still Your Employer's Property - http://sylnt.us - other-little-black-book
[02:01:05] <takyon_> alright. straining process kinda sucked, but I'm done and ready to put a lid on it so it can cool overnight
[02:01:16] <takyon_> I'll add lemon juice and all that other stuff in the morning

[15:09:29] <Bytram> must be the excess CO2
