[00:20:16] <SirFinkus> lo
[00:21:04] -!- ShitSandwich has quit [Client Quit]
[00:24:06] <chromas> Bender: s/sky/pi/
[00:24:06] <sedctl> <chromas> <Bender> [SoylentNews] - Raspberry Pi AI Beats USAF Pilot in Simulated Dogfights - http://sylnt.us - pinet-in-the-making
[00:24:19] <SirFinkus> I love how there's now a synthesizer for that annoying OOOOHooooH OOOhh OH OH OH shit that's in songs now
[00:24:38] <chromas> example?
[00:24:58] <SirFinkus> I don't know any song names
[00:25:04] <SirFinkus> just annoying shit you hear in commercials
[00:25:38] <SirFinkus> challenge: find a good song that has "take me away" as part of the chorus
[00:25:46] <chromas> I'm imagining people singing "ohh ohhh"; is that it?
[00:26:08] <chromas> challenge rejected

[00:26:14] <Timmeh> ^ 03Sum 41 - Fake My Own Death (Official Music Video) - YouTube ( https://www.youtube.com )
[00:26:18] <SirFinkus> yeah
[00:26:54] <chromas> chef cosby
[00:28:02] <SirFinkus> I call this genre "high school is so hard"
[00:29:19] <chromas> well it probably is now
[00:29:27] <chromas> if you're white
[00:29:28] <chromas> ;)
[00:31:20] <SirFinkus> I'm watching blow right now and re-evaluating my life
[00:31:29] <SirFinkus> I have the same exact hair as the main guy
[01:09:51] * Deucalion enters trailing a vague odour of saffron
[01:10:46] <Runaway1956> #submit http://kurdishdailynews.org
[01:10:47] <MrPlow> Unable to find a summary for that page
[01:19:57] <chromas> "left-wing activists transporting aid"
[01:20:09] <chromas> This confuses me
[01:21:10] <Bender> [SoylentNews] - Intel is Said to Mull Sale of its Security Business - http://sylnt.us - UEFI-and-signatures-FTW
[01:21:18] <Runaway1956> Transporting aid might include delivering arms and ammunition - I'd have to look back at the articles from that time to see what it was about chromas
[01:21:54] <chromas> Well I'm just trying to picture feminists helping anyone :)
[01:21:56] <Runaway1956> black box from Egyptair crash seems to confirm a fire aboard the plane
[01:22:36] <Runaway1956> Feminists would help other feminists - they might describe their delivery of cash and protest supplies as "aid"
[01:22:44] <TheMightyBuzzard> chromas, it only happens when nobody will pay attention to them just for shrieking and then it only happens as long as the ones they're helping aren't white males.
[01:23:12] <chromas> or white females too now
[01:23:23] * chromas consults the oppression chart
[01:23:34] <TheMightyBuzzard> nah, most feminists are white females. with blue hair.
[01:23:50] <Runaway1956> But, they do have a lot in common with latino communists
[01:23:52] <chromas> yeah but they hate "white feminism"
[01:23:58] <TheMightyBuzzard> indeed
[01:24:23] <TheMightyBuzzard> yays, almost bedtime!
[01:24:40] <Runaway1956> Just got out of bed - and I wasn't ready
[01:24:42] * chromas names the oppression chart the PERIODic Table of the Patriarchy
[01:25:44] <Runaway1956> Archie Bunker has been replaced with Edith's militant sisters . . .
[01:25:55] <Runaway1956> And, they are about equally intelligent
[01:26:02] * SirFinkus groans
[01:26:06] <chromas> archie_bunker++
[01:26:06] <Bender> karma - archie_bunker: 1
[01:26:09] <SirFinkus> it's too early for feminism
[01:26:14] <chromas> :D
[01:26:36] * chromas emails SirFinkus some ghostbusters articles
[01:26:59] <SirFinkus> it's a movie, who gives a fuck?
[01:27:06] <SirFinkus> the old movie is still there and perfect
[01:27:16] <SirFinkus> when they lucas it, I'll start getting angry
[01:27:49] <TheMightyBuzzard> far as i'm concerned there was only ever the one ghostbusters
[01:28:01] <Runaway1956> archie_bunker--
[01:28:01] <Bender> karma - archie_bunker: 0
[01:28:06] <chromas> 'cause they keep pumping out articles about it so we gotta bring it up :D
[01:28:07] <TheMightyBuzzard> #smake Runaway1956
[01:28:07] * MrPlow smakes Runaway1956 upside the head with an ugly stick
[01:28:10] <Runaway1956> never could stand that ass
[01:28:10] <SirFinkus> literally perfect movie
[01:28:13] <TheMightyBuzzard> archie_bunker++
[01:28:13] <Bender> karma - archie_bunker: 1
[01:28:23] <chromas> stifle, there, runaway
[01:28:53] <TheMightyBuzzard> man called rob reiner on the nose. meathead.
[01:28:53] <chromas> his accent was weird though, swapping "oi" and "er"
[01:29:49] <TheMightyBuzzard> i need ice cream
[01:30:02] <Runaway1956> coffee++
[01:30:03] <Bender> karma - coffee: 2705
[01:30:04] <chromas> are beer floats a thing?
[01:30:10] <SirFinkus> yea
[01:30:19] <SirFinkus> really only stouts though
[01:31:10] <chromas> "'Law & Order' director gets 10 years probation on child porn charges"
[01:31:18] <chromas> you think they'll make an episode about that?
[01:32:11] <Runaway1956> I never remember drinking that first cup - I reach for it, and discover that there are only two or three drops of cold coffee in the bottom
[01:32:52] <Runaway1956> I think the wife plays tricks on me before I wake up enough to realize what is happening
[01:33:46] <Runaway1956> High alert: US fears terror plots over holiday weekend
[01:33:55] <SirFinkus> you're married to her, she already tricked you
[01:35:21] <Runaway1956> Miss Teen USA transitioning from swimsuits to athletic wear . . . . athletic wear could be sexier than swimsuits
[01:36:07] <SirFinkus> oh man
[01:36:11] <SirFinkus> spats and yoga pants
[01:36:13] <SirFinkus> drive me nuts
[01:36:30] <Runaway1956> Most people wear athletic wear for the purpose of attracting the opposite sex anyway - less than one in ten Nike wearers ever performs any sport
[01:40:05] <julian> But you need to do some sort of sports/exercise to have anything to show off
[01:40:49] <Runaway1956> Yes, and no. Americans seem to have very low standards. We are the most obese nation on the face of the earth, and people still keep hooking up.
[01:41:51] <julian> That must be my problem, standards are too high
[01:42:32] <Runaway1956> Well, at least you have standards - you and I have that much in common. I don't do phat chicks, and I don't do ugly chicks.
[01:43:26] <julian> UK is actually almost as fat, as a nation, as the USA
[01:44:08] <Runaway1956> Well, once I did. Members of the crew had an "ugly contest". Go out, find an ugly chick, and bring her to the pier. God, we captured one hell of a lot of ugly that night.
[01:44:42] <julian> That seems a bit mean-spirited
[01:44:47] <Deucalion> shallow twattish thing to do
[01:45:01] <Runaway1956> Officially, the Captain was "NOT AMUSED" - but we all saw him grinning before he came down on us.
[01:45:47] <Runaway1956> Deucalion - we were tied up to the pier, we were in shallow water - jeez, Louise . . . .
[01:46:59] <Deucalion> I wasn't commenting on how secure the boat was, more the behaviour
[01:47:58] <Runaway1956> ROFLMAO - sailors are sailors - sometimes we are shallow, we're always interested in twat, and you gotta be a little mean-spirited to wander the world with weapons
[01:48:56] <Runaway1956> Women don't actually chase us because we are "nice guys"
[01:49:08] <chromas> I thought sailors were supposed to be occupied with entering the aft port
[01:49:49] <Runaway1956> Today's army is I think - they fire Army officers who voice any opposition to homosexuality
[01:51:25] * Runaway1956 sighs - folding at home keeps crashing, I think I've returned a half dozen failed units this week,
[01:51:28] <julian> The entire culture is becoming less accepting of bigotry, especially for authority figures
[01:51:32] <Runaway1956> Points per day are way down
[01:51:49] <chromas> bigotry++
[01:51:49] <Bender> karma - bigotry: 1
[01:52:45] <Runaway1956> Actually, the bigotry is acceptable - but only when aimed at white male heterosexuals, preferably Christians
[01:53:00] <julian> Christianity is a pretty bigoted religion, yes
[01:53:02] * chromas starts up a White Pride parade
[01:53:36] <Runaway1956> When the Muslims in your neighborhood explain real bigotry, you'll wish the Christians were still running things.
[01:53:43] <julian> Yeah, Islam is worse
[01:54:07] <julian> I don't care what religion you are as long as you're also a secularist
[01:54:11] <Runaway1956> Be careful of which devils you make freinds with - I don't think I'm a very bad devil
[01:54:37] <Runaway1956> BBIAB - chores to do . . .
[02:03:01] <SirFinkus> god, the crank movies are so good
[02:09:43] <Runaway1956> Mmmmm - fresh garden vegetables and - WTF? Chicken nuggets? How do I know those nuggets are really chicken?
[02:10:28] <Deucalion> SirFinkus, Crank? wasn't that the one with Nic Cage... something in his head that could go kabloom within X hours.. or kabloom if he slept...
[02:10:45] <SirFinkus> pretty much
[02:10:53] <SirFinkus> needed to keep his adrenaline high
[02:11:03] <SirFinkus> not nic cage though
[02:11:12] <Deucalion> seem to remember it was a fun film - chugging energy drinks
[02:11:21] <SirFinkus> it's great
[02:11:26] <SirFinkus> watching the second one now
[02:12:13] <Deucalion> Oh, not Nic Cage... musta been that hard ass Brit actor I can never remember the name of...
[02:12:39] * Deucalion is not a film buff :D
[02:12:46] <SirFinkus> looks kind of like the guy in the die hard movies
[02:12:53] <SirFinkus> I'm terrible with names
[02:13:19] <Deucalion> Jason Statham?
[02:13:39] <SirFinkus> apparently
[02:13:59] <SirFinkus> I recognized ron jeremy
[02:15:37] <Deucalion> Had to googly it.. my memory is terrible. Seems Brit actors always get casted as the "hard" men in hollywood films.. apparently still trading on the footy hooligan era... slams head in car door and says "fuck you" - apparently more acceptable in a brit accent than a US one :D
[02:16:06] -!- PendoulousTurd [PendoulousTurd!~62b0c8c6@ka52-830-964-802.sd.sd.cox.net] has joined #Soylent
[02:16:16] <PendoulousTurd> 'evening, fellas.
[02:16:19] <SirFinkus> they weren't going for acceptable with the crank series
[02:16:45] PendoulousTurd is now known as PendulousTurd
[02:16:45] <Deucalion> Evening EF... having difficulty squeezing out that last meal?
[02:17:00] <PendulousTurd> Indeed, Deucalion.
[02:17:21] <Runaway1956> Probably not lubricated with enough ethanol
[02:17:49] <PendulousTurd> Likely not.
[02:18:02] <PendulousTurd> Yet, at least.
[02:18:13] <SirFinkus> working on that now, I was hoping a girl would come over, but not happening
[02:18:25] <Deucalion> SirFinkus, which makes it all the more enjoyable. Was Crank the one where he ends up randomly fucking over the trunk of a car just to keep things going? I think it was.
[02:18:32] <SirFinkus> yeah
[02:18:41] <SirFinkus> with the asian schoolgirls
[02:19:02] <PendulousTurd> Crank movies are an awesome concept.
[02:19:04] <Deucalion> lol...
[02:19:30] <PendulousTurd> Although I think it would have been a better concept to cut the analogies and just portray the protagonists as meth addicts.
[02:19:49] <SirFinkus> I think they pulled it off
[02:20:06] <SirFinkus> normally I'd roll my eyes, but I suspended disbelief
[02:20:24] <PendulousTurd> They needed meth action movies though
[02:20:31] <SirFinkus> I think a meth addict would be less functional
[02:21:03] <PendulousTurd> The meth non-action movies are Spun and Salton Sea, in which the high point is stealing Bob Hope's stool sample
[02:21:14] <SirFinkus> and if the motivation was to just get meth, the storyline wouldn't have really worked
[02:21:27] <SirFinkus> you need the revenge plot
[02:21:51] <PendulousTurd> Good point - if you need meth, then somebody already hates you.
[02:22:29] <SirFinkus> his motivation in the first was to kill the motherfuckers who poisoned him, if he was just a meth addict, his motivation would be to get more meth
[02:22:50] <SirFinkus> or money for meth
[02:23:26] <SirFinkus> the premise might not have been fantastic enough too
[02:23:26] <PendulousTurd> meth addicts are pretty wacky in their quests to attain more meth.
[02:23:32] <SirFinkus> too realistic
[02:23:41] * SirFinkus has experience
[02:24:33] <PendulousTurd> Yeah, I seen a few myself. Fortunately being high on the shit scared me so much I never did it again.
[02:25:01] <SirFinkus> it's probably a drug that would appeal to me, so I've stayed away
[02:25:53] <PendulousTurd> The first few hours are great, non-stop chatter telling people you don't even know about how you like to fuck wool socks.
[02:26:16] <PendulousTurd> 12 hours later, it's a constant state of panic and falling down the stairs. And the dick-shrink.
[02:27:26] <PendulousTurd> If you go out in public, you pretend like you're maintaining, and you think you are, but to those all around you you're in a Zeus statue post
[02:27:41] <SirFinkus> toady one did meth
[02:29:07] <PendulousTurd> A lot of those guys tried it. I doubt they still habitally do it. And the ones who do are more McAfees than Stalllmans.
[02:30:01] * PendulousTurd tried an failed to get some adderall before finals
[02:30:06] <Deucalion> As you say - suspension of belief required - as with most films.
[02:30:27] <SirFinkus> yeah, but the crank guys pull it of better
[02:30:43] <SirFinkus> I never really roll my eyes watching it
[02:30:49] <SirFinkus> refuge in audacity
[02:34:03] <julian> This laptop gets about double the battery life in Windows 10 compared to Linux :(
[02:34:48] <PendulousTurd> Yes....genuine Windows 10....the latest and greatest from Microsoft! Upgrade now, please!
[02:35:47] * Runaway1956 really doesn't want to go to work
[02:36:10] <SirFinkus> I think that's more of a testament to how shitty linux is than how great windows is
[02:36:11] <PendulousTurd> Working is for suckers, Runaway.
[02:36:42] <PendulousTurd> windows is getting pretty shitty and I'm about to ditch it for Linux again. \
[02:36:44] <Runaway1956> Yeah - I guess I'm a sucker
[02:37:17] <PendulousTurd> I'll be too, next week, Runaway. Somebody hired me even after the Boston Dynamics incident.
[02:38:51] <Runaway1956> I'm gone - gotta pump gas tonight, so leaving a few minutes early . . .
[02:39:54] <PendulousTurd> Nothing wrong with that, you get to see all the weirdos of the evening and interact with them.
[02:40:00] * PendulousTurd almost did apply for the nearest convenience store
[02:47:40] <SirFinkus> I'm a roadie now, so I'll be rolling in cash
[02:47:55] <PendulousTurd> Nice, Fink.
[02:48:29] <PendulousTurd> hopes is that you will roll in whores, too.
[02:49:07] <SirFinkus> probably not, but the occasional free drink and good entertainment will be awesome
[02:50:38] <SirFinkus> and I'll get to meet some neat people

[05:14:55] <chromas> it's just 'cause nobody's making stoner movies anymore
[05:25:44] <julian> A full 1% (by dollars) of USA's exports in 2011 was "human or animal blood"

[14:13:16] <Runaway1956> Attitude check: everyone measure your attitudes, and tell me what you get, alright?
[14:14:05] <Runaway1956> Little faggoty bastard stated that my "attitude has improved" over the last year or so. I want to know how the little cocksucker measures an attitude.
[14:14:44] <Runaway1956> I was writing evaluations on junior personnel before his mama ever figured out what the birds and the bees were all about . . . .
[14:14:59] <Runaway1956> I really want to choke the weenie to death.
[14:15:44] <crutchy> !grab Runaway1956
[14:15:44] <Bender> Added quote 744
[14:15:48] <n1> you're being evaluated?
[14:16:13] -!- crutchy has quit [Quit: Leaving]
[14:16:31] <Runaway1956> Kinda - it's not an official evaluation - we had a couple incidents in the plant in the past few weeks, and the plant manager wanted to talk to me, get my input
[14:16:44] <Runaway1956> The head honcho knows his shit - he listens.
[14:17:04] <Runaway1956> My boss is an idiot though, and everything gets "filtered" through his tiny little head
[14:17:47] <Runaway1956> I can't, for the life of me, figure out why the head honcho keeps my idiot boss around, unless he gives really great head.
[14:17:51] <n1> head honcho can't be that great if he put that person in the position of authority
[14:18:33] <boru> I've been enduring similarly vague soft-metrics for the last few weeks.
[14:18:37] <Runaway1956> That's my thought, often enough, +n1 - but there's SOMETHING going on that I don't understand
[14:19:15] <n1> maybe he's the delegation specialist, your boss does all the things the employees don't like, but the top guy gets to keep everyone on his side
[14:19:34] <Runaway1956> Had I ever written an evaluation, with a comment about "attitude" in it, my chief would have kicked my ass, the XO would have kicked my ass, and the Captain would have taken a stripe away from me
[14:20:11] <n1> as much as i lose sleep and hair over being self-employed, i couldn't even go back into that sort of environment
[14:20:33] <Runaway1956> *sigh*
[14:20:42] * Runaway1956 was self employed for almost five years
[14:21:01] <n1> what happened?
[14:21:15] <Runaway1956> I never could purchase good insurance, and I finally chickened out after an accident that could have eaten my ass off
[14:21:49] <Runaway1956> Liability is such a hassle - and it's even worse when you view yourself as liable
[14:22:14] <n1> i know the feeling, it's always risky, even with insurance
[14:22:26] <n1> they're not exactly known for being friendly and helpful when it comes to making a claim
[14:23:18] <Runaway1956> As far as I oculd tell, there wasn't anything freindly in the business world
[14:23:31] <n1> indeed
[14:23:36] <Runaway1956> A lot of "You scratch my back, I scratch yours", but little freindly.
[14:24:05] <n1> i've been screwed over on both sides, because it's all about the monies
[14:24:20] <Runaway1956> Yep - that's it.
[14:24:36] <n1> and as someone who has been self-employed for several years now
[14:24:46] <n1> i couldn't give two fucks about 'regulation strangling small business'
[14:24:56] <n1> it's people who lie and scam who make business difficult
[14:25:55] <n1> only thing regulation wise that annoyed me was being forced into a pension scheme thing, as all employers now must offer pension schemes
[14:25:59] <Runaway1956> Yup. The only regulation I had problems with, were those regarding insurance. No matter how I tried, I could never put together enough moeny for a decent insurance plan for employees.
[14:26:35] <n1> which is just a subsidy to the existing pensioners, because we can't burst their little bubble about how perfect they are and how clever they are for investing into lots of pensions with huge debts
[14:26:37] <Runaway1956> That could easily be a killer - pensions are generally mismanaged anyway, so all your money is just gone with the wind.
[14:27:05] <n1> if there's one thing we can strangle small business over, it's making sure the baby boombers don't get their houses or pensions devalued
[14:29:20] <Runaway1956> Coffee++

[14:30:06] <Bender> karma - water: 32
[14:30:24] <Runaway1956> Funny - as a group, there isn't much that we all agree on here on IRC - but - coffee - we are pretty unanimous that coffee is the blood of life.
[14:30:59] * boru balks.
[14:31:22] <n1> i don't drink coffee
[14:31:41] <Runaway1956> That's almost like not breathing, isn't it?
[14:32:03] <n1> if it's in tiramisu i'm down with it
[14:32:06] <Runaway1956> Do you drink good tea?
[14:32:21] <n1> but having enough years about people telling me "i can't live without coffee, i can't function without it, i need coffee, more coffee"
[14:32:27] <n1> it's a vice i can probably do without
[14:32:35] <Runaway1956> LOL
[14:32:47] <n1> i used to drink tea, but then i lived in more tropical climates, now i don't drink it very often
[14:33:04] <Runaway1956> I could give up coffee, if I had a supply of Caravan tea at the same price
[14:33:11] <n1> this house goes through £50 of instant coffee a week.
[14:33:25] <n1> mainly through one person
[14:33:35] <Runaway1956> Jasmine tea is good, but not as the daily drink - to sweet.
[14:34:07] <Runaway1956> Orange and black pekoe teas, I don't even consider to be real teas - no real flavor.
[14:34:17] <n1> if people talked about alcohol, or any other stimulant like they do coffee, it would be very different
[14:34:55] <n1> i drink caffeinated beverages on occasion, but this whole acceptance we have as a society that everyone needs coffee to function and not start killing people
[14:34:57] <n1> is a strange one to me
[14:35:32] <Runaway1956> Ehhh - I wouldn't start killing people, but I'd be less pleasant to be around. I admit, I'm hooked on my drug.
[14:35:52] <n1> Runaway1956, different people have different reactions
[14:36:02] <n1> but also, it's easy to say how chill you'd be
[14:36:06] <n1> when coffee is always available
[14:36:24] <n1> when did you ever run out of cofffee, go to the store and it was all sold out?
[14:36:28] <n1> coffee*
[14:36:43] <n1> "oh there will be a delivery some time next week"
[14:37:03] <Runaway1956> That hasn't happened - but I've been so broke, I couldn't afford to buy a can of coffee. Had to save what I had for gas money to get to work.
[14:37:37] <n1> i'd be interested to see if for some contrived reason, there was a coffee shortage in an urban area, how people would be behaving after a couple days
[14:38:13] <Runaway1956> It would be ugly for about a week to ten days - then all of us fools would start getting over our withdrawals
[14:38:33] <Runaway1956> Cigarettes would be ugly for about three weeks.
[14:38:42] <Runaway1956> other drugs, I don't know about
[14:39:14] <Runaway1956> Oh - alcohol. Pretty ugly for less than a month - the worst cases would just drop dead.
[14:40:00] <n1> in some ways i'd say alcohol is probably the best one to go without, except those who are actually addicted
[14:40:15] <n1> if you're just used to having a glass of wine of an evening, you can go without that easier than your coffee in the morning
[14:40:20] <n1> i'd guess anyway
[14:40:49] <Runaway1956> I believe you are right - casual and social drinkers don't have physical reactions to being shut off.
[14:42:25] <n1> the less i drink stuff with caffeine in, the more it gives me a headache when i do
[14:42:46] <n1> same as people who drink coffee, for a couple years i was fuelled by 6 cans of redbull a day
[14:44:28] <Runaway1956> Heh - my subscription runs out next month - time to redo it.
[14:46:36] <AndyTheAbsurd> n1: that's a shitload of redbull. Be glad you didn't die.
[14:47:05] <Runaway1956> Gotta go - thanks for listening to me vent +n1
[14:47:12] * n1 hat tip Runaway1956
[14:48:03] <n1> AndyTheAbsurd, it's nothing in comparison to the coffee my friends and colleagues drink
[14:48:25] <n1> how do they know they need a coffee? their current coffee is all gone.
[14:48:36] <AndyTheAbsurd> I've worked with people like that
[14:49:51] <n1> always need some kind of stimulation or their bodies and brains will shut down, so have to keep ingesting little boosts
[14:49:55] <n1> that's my conclusion anyway
[15:09:33] <n1> time to enjoy one of my vices now though, smoke break
