[01:08:56] <TheMightyBuzzard> fuck i'm tired
[01:16:47] <chromas> #smake TheMightyBuzzard a caffeinated foosh
[01:16:47] * MrPlow smakes TheMightyBuzzard a caffeinated foosh upside the head with all a snackbar
[01:17:08] <TheMightyBuzzard> plenty of fish today already. that's why i'm tired.
[01:42:41] * cmn32480 just asked the 8 year old how to spell relief
[01:42:50] <cmn32480> he looked at me like I had 2 heads
[01:43:22] * cmn32480 hands TheMightyBuzzard his last wee bit of sympathy
[01:46:33] <cmn32480> as a side note, my wife must be doing somethign right raising these kids... the oldest wanted pumpkin pie for his birthday and knows that I don't like pumpkin pie.
[01:46:50] <cmn32480> he convince her to buy me a single serving 4 inch diameter cherry pie

[02:01:38] <Ethanol-fueled> 'sup.
[02:01:57] <SirFinkus> lo
[02:02:04] <Ethanol-fueled> drankin'
[02:02:09] <Ethanol-fueled> just finished a math exam
[02:02:15] <SirFinkus> haha, same
[02:02:19] <SirFinkus> retard math though
[02:02:24] <Ethanol-fueled> didn't manage to fuck it up too badly.
[02:02:33] <SirFinkus> retard beer too
[02:02:40] <Ethanol-fueled> what beer?
[02:02:46] <SirFinkus> my dad bought some shit with sage and juniper berries in it
[02:02:50] <SirFinkus> it's as bad as it sounds
[02:03:02] <SirFinkus> called sagefright imperial ipa
[02:03:04] <Ethanol-fueled> Hahahah goddamn hippies
[02:03:17] <SirFinkus> it tastes like someone dumped a shot of gin in a beer
[02:03:26] <Ethanol-fueled> Do you live in a commune?
[02:03:32] <SirFinkus> no
[02:03:43] <SirFinkus> but my dad is kind of retarded at buying beer
[02:03:51] <SirFinkus> he said the label looked cool, so he bought it
[02:03:56] <Ethanol-fueled> Sometimes good ideas just suck
[02:04:02] * Ethanol-fueled buys beer for the labels
[02:04:33] <SirFinkus> I don't know what he expected, it's a drawing of hops, juniper berries, and sage
[02:04:42] <Ethanol-fueled> It couldn't possibly be as bad as that bacon maple donut imperial stout shit
[02:04:54] <SirFinkus> I think it could
[02:05:05] <SirFinkus> I'm considering throwing out the rest
[02:05:15] <SirFinkus> so it's pretty fucking bad
[02:05:17] <Ethanol-fueled> the juniper doesn't sound so bad, but the sage.....gawd
[02:05:26] <Ethanol-fueled> might as well drink mud
[02:05:36] <SirFinkus> I don't juniper
[02:05:41] <SirFinkus> but in a fucking beer?
[02:05:46] <SirFinkus> seriously
[02:07:13] <Ethanol-fueled> What are you doing in tard math now?
[02:07:22] <cmn32480> juniper only comes in network hardware
[02:07:41] <Ethanol-fueled> sup cmn
[02:07:47] <cmn32480> same old same old eth
[02:07:49] <cmn32480> how you been?
[02:08:00] <Ethanol-fueled> Good. It's nice having a paycheck again
[02:08:02] <SirFinkus> fucking quadratic equations
[02:08:10] <SirFinkus> functions and stuff
[02:08:20] <cmn32480> never underestimate the convenince of regular cash
[02:08:39] <SirFinkus> I got a 98 on the last test, so I'm not worried
[02:08:42] <Ethanol-fueled> That shit is fucking important fink. You use those skills more than anything else through calc III at least
[02:09:12] <SirFinkus> it's annoying because I just forgot a few critical things in high school
[02:09:14] <Ethanol-fueled> Don't do what I did and spend those lessons playing led zeppelin and pinching my girlfriend's nipples
[02:09:39] * cmn32480 keeps quiet...
[02:09:42] -!- muxer [muxer!~muxing@47.182.sju.osx] has joined #Soylent
[02:09:51] <Ethanol-fueled> Though using the quadratic formula is rare as fuck past algebra II/pre calc
[02:09:55] <cmn32480> somebody in this conversation failed Calc II... twice
[02:10:12] <Ethanol-fueled> I dropped calc II once.
[02:10:20] <Ethanol-fueled> and dropped discrete math twice
[02:10:34] <cmn32480> heh.. I shouldna dropped calc II... twice
[02:10:54] <cmn32480> s/shouldna/shoulda/
[02:10:56] <exec> <cmn32480> heh.. I shoulda dropped calc II... twice
[02:11:02] <SirFinkus> this is actually my second time taking this class, but I had a world of shit drop down on my last time and it couldn't really be avoided
[02:11:09] <Ethanol-fueled> I got to worm my way out of calc II by substituting another math class but I'm stuck having to take discrete, and now actually.
[02:11:18] <Ethanol-fueled> That sucks fink
[02:11:26] <cmn32480> I did ok in discrete AFAIK
[02:11:31] <cmn32480> it's been a long time
[02:11:39] <SirFinkus> yeah, but I don't think it's a huge deal, as long as I preform well in the future
[02:11:41] <cmn32480> 17 years?
[02:12:04] <SirFinkus> I kind of like math, and seem to be pretty good at it, I hear calc is a different game though
[02:12:06] * cmn32480 usddenly feel sold
[02:12:25] <Ethanol-fueled> calc I and II aren't hard, there's nothing magical about them.
[02:12:44] <cmn32480> I beg to differ on calc II... twice
[02:12:47] <Ethanol-fueled> there's nothing magical about derivatives and integrals if you can understand what infinity is
[02:13:10] <SirFinkus> I think I may be fucked if I need to put actual effort in
[02:13:14] <Ethanol-fueled> what was so hard about calc II besides that the problems are a page of work each?
[02:13:22] <SirFinkus> which makes me sound like a smug asshole, but it's true
[02:13:28] <Ethanol-fueled> It's more work, but it's not conceptually more difficult.
[02:13:45] <cmn32480> it has been so long I really don't remember.. all I know is that I couldn't do it
[02:13:59] <Ethanol-fueled> Fink, just don't forget your shit.
[02:14:42] <cmn32480> /me hands SirFinkus toilet paper, just in case
[02:14:50] <Ethanol-fueled> The most important things are fucking with polynomials and doing those "solve for x" problems that have 4 different variables spread all over a fraction
[02:15:21] <SirFinkus> sounds fun
[02:16:18] <cmn32480> by polynomials he means more than one chick at a time.
[02:16:43] <SirFinkus> I thought that was polynuptuals
[02:16:51] <Ethanol-fueled> Look, this is a derivative: (n-1)x^(n-1)
[02:17:16] <Ethanol-fueled> so the derivative of x^2 - 4x + 5 is 2x-4
[02:17:37] <Ethanol-fueled> Oh, there's another tip they don't tell you about but you should definitely get a head-start on
[02:17:57] <Ethanol-fueled> expressing radicals as exponents like in mr cool bp's signature
[02:18:10] <Ethanol-fueled> for example sqrt(x) is x^(1/2)
[02:18:10] <Ethanol-fueled> etc
[02:18:33] <SirFinkus> oh, I got that shit down
[02:18:34] <SirFinkus> the radicals I mean
[02:18:44] <Ethanol-fueled> 3*sqrt(x) is x^(3/2)
[02:18:48] <SirFinkus> they told us that
[02:19:03] <Ethanol-fueled> they never told me that....*sniffles*
[02:19:12] <SirFinkus> I like my math teacher a lot actually
[02:19:16] <SirFinkus> indian chick
[02:19:32] <Ethanol-fueled> Does she stink of the curry?
[02:19:41] <SirFinkus> no, curry smells delicious
[02:20:18] <SirFinkus> I actually hate her teaching style, but I learn all the shit from her well

[02:21:49] <SirFinkus> oh, fucking
[02:22:02] <SirFinkus> so the vocalist in the band I'm a roadie for just up and quit
[02:22:07] <SirFinkus> not looking good
[02:22:16] <cmn32480> hope you gots another job
[02:22:23] <Ethanol-fueled> Fink, step up and become the vocalist
[02:22:33] <SirFinkus> the only other vocal prospect is a chick the bassist used to bang
[02:22:41] <Ethanol-fueled> Sing Danzig's "Mother" for the audition...that's an easy one
[02:22:43] <SirFinkus> I can't sing
[02:22:56] <Ethanol-fueled> You could sing "Mother" after a few beers
[02:23:18] <Ethanol-fueled> Or you could sing U2's "Numb"
[02:23:19] <Ethanol-fueled> Hahahaha
[02:23:34] <SirFinkus> I'd rather be unemployed than sing U2
[02:23:51] <Ethanol-fueled> The joke was that in that song, it's the guitarist talking
[02:24:02] <SirFinkus> I got a lead on a semishitty job
[02:24:03] <Ethanol-fueled> maybe a "yeah" or two from Bono
[02:24:17] <SirFinkus> but there are complications with that one
[02:24:24] <Ethanol-fueled> why?
[02:24:35] <SirFinkus> woman stuff, I won't go into detail
[02:24:41] <Ethanol-fueled> HAHAHAHA
[02:24:48] <SirFinkus> inorite?
[02:24:49] <Ethanol-fueled> Working with women: not even once
[02:25:25] <SirFinkus> but, we might have a woman in the band now, with baggage
[02:25:43] <SirFinkus> she used to date the bassist, what could possibly go wrong?
[02:26:13] <Ethanol-fueled> Should provide for plenty of entertainment
[02:27:33] <Ethanol-fueled> I've hit a new literary low, reading Tom Clancy
[02:27:35] <SirFinkus> yeah, it's actually kind of great, I can be completely uninvolved in the drama, but witness it
[02:27:37] <Bender> [SoylentNews] - Scientists Fix Mutation Causing Sickle Cell Disease in Stem Cells - http://sylnt.us - good-news-for-mice
[02:27:43] <Ethanol-fueled> Hell yeah Fink
[02:27:47] <Ethanol-fueled> Thats the spirit
[02:27:54] <SirFinkus> maybe stir the shit a little

[02:28:14] <Ethanol-fueled> Plus bands sell more shit with a chick in the band, especially singing
[02:28:31] <Ethanol-fueled> So her dressing skimpy is a must, even if she's fat
[02:28:33] * SirFinkus gets another awful beer
[02:28:38] <SirFinkus> naw, she's pretty cute
[02:28:45] <Ethanol-fueled> Even better
[02:28:47] <SirFinkus> not really my type, but attractive
[02:28:56] <Ethanol-fueled> That's all that's needed
[02:29:02] <Ethanol-fueled> even if she sucks at being a musician
[02:29:14] <SirFinkus> naw, I've heard her sing before, she's halfway decent
[02:29:25] <SirFinkus> standard rock chick look
[02:29:52] -!- popeydoll has quit [Ping timeout: 244 seconds]
[02:30:06] <SirFinkus> I saw her wearing a sleep shirt once, so she probably has good taste in music too
[02:30:34] <Ethanol-fueled> Good. SHe'll sell more tickets
[02:31:36] * Ethanol-fueled presses F5, laughs as his karma drops another point
[02:32:11] <cmn32480> which story?
[02:32:27] <Ethanol-fueled> cmn: ALL OF THEM
[02:32:31] <cmn32480> lol
[02:32:42] <SirFinkus> I never understood karma and similar systems
[02:32:49] <Ethanol-fueled> I'm kind of afraid that I won'
[02:32:50] <SirFinkus> they only work on people who give a shit about karma
[02:32:51] * cmn32480 makes a note to be a serial upmodder for EF... jsut so he can keep posting
[02:33:09] <SirFinkus> which excludes trolls
[02:33:25] <Ethanol-fueled> I'd like to have another decent journal based on real life exploits, but I think I already described them all.
[02:33:34] <SirFinkus> because it's trivial to gain karma
[02:33:54] <Ethanol-fueled> It is pretty trivial to gain and lose karma
[02:34:29] <Ethanol-fueled> By the way, I deleted fucking everything awhile back because there were elements of those writings I wanted to use in other writings linked to my own identity
[02:34:41] <SirFinkus> I have a friend who shitposts on reddit constantly, then just goes in a popular thread and posts the populist opinion and proceeds to shitpost more
[02:34:54] <SirFinkus> so fucking easy to game
[02:35:20] <Ethanol-fueled> Trouble with reddit is that they censor
[02:35:42] <Ethanol-fueled> SJW mods , banning certain discussions altogether, etc. THat's why I don't bother to give them my eyeballs.
[02:35:55] <Ethanol-fueled> Probably loads of fun to shitpost though
[02:36:32] <Ethanol-fueled> I could see pretending to be one of those weird in between genders and being slightly condescending about how other genders aren't gay enough or something
[02:37:51] <SirFinkus> I'm out, friend just invited me over to eat shakshuka
[02:37:53] <SirFinkus> whatever that is
[02:37:53] <cmn32480> hilariously... your last comment had one mod of "+1 Insightful"
[02:37:56] <SirFinkus> it sounds good
[02:38:06] <Ethanol-fueled> Or embracing the persona of a dark black man and calling mixed readers "not black enough" etc
[02:38:07] <cmn32480> ~gnight SirFinkus
[02:38:08] <Ethanol-fueled> lata fink
[02:38:10] * exec cromulently formulates a TCP stream of toaster leavins for SirFinkus
[02:38:18] <SirFinkus> it looks good too
[02:38:51] <Ethanol-fueled> it does look good. The middle-eastern version of hrevos rancheros
[02:39:37] <cmn32480> ahhh shit... I already installed Exchange on this box...
[02:39:40] <cmn32480> sweet...
[02:39:48] * cmn32480 skips a bunch of pages in the instructions
[02:39:53] <SirFinkus> I got them to send a car to pick me up because I'm already shitfaced
[02:40:00] <Ethanol-fueled> Nice Fink
[02:40:04] <cmn32480> Uber!
[02:40:11] <Ethanol-fueled> Lyft. Uber sucks
[02:40:11] <SirFinkus> no, friend is picking me up
[02:40:17] <SirFinkus> even better because it's free
[02:40:26] * cmn32480 don't use either one
[02:40:30] <Ethanol-fueled> Lyft treats their drivers much better and their drivers are much happier
[02:42:02] * cmn32480 takes your word for it
[02:42:27] <Ethanol-fueled> Plus, unlike the taxi services, they have white drivers
[02:42:44] <cmn32480> heh
[02:42:57] <Ethanol-fueled> not lazy somalians or eritreans who before uber and lyft came around would rather shoot dice in parking lots than take customers
[02:43:14] <cmn32480> color of the driver doensn't bother me much.. long as it isn't an Asian woamn who can't see over the steering wheel
[02:43:44] <Ethanol-fueled> Fortunately, I've never seen an Asian woman drive uber or lyft
[02:44:01] <Ethanol-fueled> probably because drivers have to have decent driving records
[02:44:03] <SirFinkus> oh man, I got a great story I wish I could tell
[02:44:16] <Ethanol-fueled> fink, tell it
[02:44:33] <SirFinkus> I can't
[02:44:38] <Ethanol-fueled> bullshit
[02:44:48] <cmn32480> who are we gonna tell that knows you?
[02:44:55] <SirFinkus> nope
[02:45:15] <Ethanol-fueled> I know people in washington. Elite hackers
[02:45:24] <Ethanol-fueled> Who could find out
[02:46:14] <SirFinkus> russians?
[02:46:29] <Ethanol-fueled> Like the rooskies give a shit about your asian woman fetish
[02:46:29] <cmn32480> worse
[02:46:46] <SirFinkus> actually, it's the other way around
[02:46:52] <SirFinkus> but that's all you're getting
[02:47:17] <Ethanol-fueled> Ivan's too busy chugging vodka and waiting in the bread-line to give a shit about your yellow fever
[02:48:00] <SirFinkus> the trouble with asian girls is that they're either super fucking hot, or pan-faced abortions
[02:48:09] <SirFinkus> there doesn't seem to be a middle ground
[02:48:29] <Ethanol-fueled> Don't do it, Fink. Putting looks aside, Asian women are NOT at all like dumb White boys make them out to be
[02:48:53] <Ethanol-fueled> Every moment you hang out with her will be one large pushy passive-aggressive undertone.
[02:49:04] <SirFinkus> naw, it's nothing like that
[02:49:10] <cmn32480> meh
[02:49:18] <cmn32480> asian chicks don't do it for me
[02:49:42] <SirFinkus> ok, ride is here
[02:49:50] <cmn32480> ~gnight sirf
[02:49:52] * exec unnecessarily hallucinates a btrfs volume of boiled dog with sirf
[02:50:11] <Ethanol-fueled> I'm sure there are some decent Asian women who are sufficiently Americanized.
[02:50:16] <Ethanol-fueled> I'
[02:50:20] <Ethanol-fueled> Never met one though
[02:50:26] <cmn32480> prolly
[02:50:34] <cmn32480> not my type.. so I never tried
[02:50:47] <Ethanol-fueled> My type are FAT GIRLS
[02:50:51] <cmn32480> I'm calling it a night
[02:50:54] <Ethanol-fueled> Later

[11:45:16] <TheMightyBuzzard> what about it?

[11:48:04] <TheMightyBuzzard> speaking of, the very last queued story goes live now-ish
[11:48:05] <Bytram> that is just an absolutely AMAZING accomplishment
[11:48:21] <janrinok> you're not far behind
[11:48:50] <Bytram> why you looking at my behind?
[11:48:52] <Bytram> ;)
[11:49:00] <janrinok> it is your best view
[11:49:23] <Bytram> but seriously, the holiday season will be fast upon me at work and my free time will be limited soon until a few weeks into the new year
[11:49:55] <janrinok> can't get a decent driver for i965 for FreeBSD - it tells me it knows what it wants, but just can't find it.
[11:50:13] <janrinok> I was being serious - as far as I know it is your best view
[11:50:43] <TheMightyBuzzard> janrinok, this is not surprising in my experience with *BSD. it doesn't have nearly as many devs as linux and thus always lags behind in drivers.
[11:51:18] <janrinok> it's detected it fine, so it knows what it is, but without a good driver it becomes unusable
[11:51:31] * Bytram finds himself going in circles as he cant quite crane his neck around that far
[11:52:11] <janrinok> ~weather

[11:54:06] <janrinok> well, at least nipple scrolling sounds like it might be enjoyable, but what I have is not
[11:55:38] <Bytram> janrinok: is it *just* your hexchat window? do you see the same thing happening with any other program?

[11:56:40] <Bytram> hmmm
[11:56:56] <janrinok> even a full screen terminal window
[11:57:22] <janrinok> most unpleasant on the eyes
[11:57:51] <chromas> It's the advanced slideshow technology
[11:57:54] <Bytram> is it strictly the *size* (area) of the window on the screen? what about location and whether window is short+wide or tall+narrow but same area?
[11:58:33] <janrinok> well, if I drag a smaller window around it tears and jumps until it finally comes to rest and redraws itself.
[11:58:55] <Bytram> interesting
[11:59:13] <Bytram> only happens with freebsd?
[11:59:27] * Bytram wondrs if you have some slightly wonky video ram
[11:59:38] <janrinok> and it is not CPU power - this is a quad core with buckets of RAM. It is fine with linux and (spit) windows

[12:00:11] <janrinok> chromas, lol!
[12:00:40] <janrinok> I'm going to change back to my linux box -brb 5
[12:00:44] <Bytram> reason I ask, I've seen slightly off-spec hardware work find on some OSs, but other OSs are not as tolerant of 'issues'.
[12:00:49] <chromas> I did find a thing about patching the driver for Intel GPUs but it's from 2013; I'd expect it to be fixed by now
[12:01:21] <janrinok> I've been pleased with my FreeBSD trial until I got to this problem
[12:01:49] <Bytram> to make an extreme analogy, UDP and TCP both xfer data well on a circuit with just two endpoints, but as the collisions go up, UDP starts dropping things, but the TCP still gets things through.
[12:01:55] <janrinok> but having wasted over 24 hours on this one problem, I might just put it aside until I have more time to spare
[12:02:25] <Bytram> I assume you've searched for drivers on the net?
[12:02:42] <janrinok> lots of places, I'm also on the forums too
[12:02:47] * Bytram has no idea if a, say, openbsd driver might work on freebsd?
[12:04:01] <janrinok> I could accept it if the s'ware couldn't recognise the hardware, but to recognise it, then try to load the driver, and then say nope, can't find it, seems a bit bizaare
[12:05:27] <janrinok> I've tried building the port again, and it does 'build' a i965 driver, but neither I nor the software can find it again...
[12:05:38] <Bytram> I'm about fresh out of ideas except... 2 thoughts... I assume you've tried a cold/hard reboot? Also, try slotting the graphics card into another slot?
[12:05:55] <Bytram> cold == unplug and wait 30 secs
[12:05:58] <TheMightyBuzzard> if it were linux i'd say see if it's blacklisted or if you need to put the module in modules.conf

[17:53:33] <janrinok> yeah, no problem this time
[17:53:56] <janrinok> made lots of notes last time and just referred to them
[17:54:31] <Deucalion> noice. Did you spot my ramble in the other place regards the logging?
[17:55:22] <janrinok> I've been setting up a FreeBSD box, but cannot get a decent graphics driver to load. Didn't notice your comments, sorry, but I've worked out that it stores on the local machine and not on the server
[17:55:49] <janrinok> don't know why, but I imagined it was keeping history on the server
[17:56:22] <janrinok> but if I change boxes, it loses whatever was on the previous box
[17:58:49] <Deucalion> Probably that misleading "Log" module option in the ZNC config pages... that would log to the server if I hadn't nobbled it deliberately during the last round of s/w upgrades. Someone had previously enabled it at the Global context so it was logging absolutely everything that went through ZNC (PMs and all). Logs have been purged now and the module is unloaded completely, it's just too dangerous.
[18:00:13] <janrinok> ah, that explains it, because reading on the interwebs suggested I was wrong, but I was content with being told that - again
[18:00:26] <Deucalion> if using the same client you should be able to copy the logs from one box to the other. Hexchat profiles for example are platform agnostic (much like Firefox). If you work out where the profile is on each platform you can quite literally drop the profile from the old box onto the new one et voila all your settings and logs retained.
[18:01:01] <janrinok> Ah, I'll have a look at that when I get bored trying to get my FBSD working
[18:01:54] <Deucalion> I suppose I ~could~ re-enable the Log module on the ZNC server at a user level... but I'm really quite uncomfortable with it as it stores in plain text and a whole bunch have ssh access to that location on the server
[18:02:34] <Deucalion> I keep dabbling with the BSDs - but there always seems to be some niggle that I just cba to work out
[18:03:31] <Deucalion> How's things otherwise? Keeping well?
[18:04:39] <janrinok> yes. a bit tired, we are all editing a lot with a few missing at the moment. I'm OK other than that.
[18:05:07] <janrinok> I have the same problem with *BSD, but I've got much further this time than previously
[18:10:56] <janrinok> Deucalion, I wouldn't re-enable the logs for ZNC, it works fine as it is, particularly as I now understand it a little better
[18:17:48] <Deucalion> OK - I'll leave it be. Takes a little bit of mental gymnastics to grok exactly what's doing what exactly when using a bouncer for the first time. All the tool-tips in ZNC for e.g. are phrased in the context as viewed by ZNC of ZNC - so a tool-tip says "local" if you always used a client to connect it's easy to think that means local to the client, but it's actually meaning local to the ZNC instance. Soon falls into place
[18:18:51] <janrinok> I'm sure it all made sense to the guy who wrote it
[18:22:26] <Deucalion> Heh - why make it simple when you can just keep adding more and more functionality to it :) The newer version completely revamps how scrollback works too - that's going to be fun :/

[23:46:03] <cmn32480> TheMightyBuzzard - not quite. It isn't in effect yet
[23:46:04] <cmn32480> Proposed in the form of an interstate compact, the agreement would go into effect among the participating states in the compact only after they collectively represent an absolute majority of votes (currently at least 270) in the Electoral College. In the next presidential election after adoption by the requisite number of states, the participating states would award all of their electoral votes to presidential electors associated with
[23:46:04] <cmn32480> the candidate who wins the overall popular vote in the 50 states and the District of Columbia. As a result, the winner of the national popular vote would always win the presidency by always securing a majority of votes in the Electoral College. Until the compact's conditions are met, all states award electoral votes in their current manner.
