[09:53:34] <boru> Oh, just need it for the 'story continues' button which doesn't work without it.

[11:08:09] <boru> Good idea.
[11:08:39] <boru> Man, we picked up a Bridgeport mill for 500 lids for our hacker lab. Good bargain.

[11:10:16] <boru> Are you far sighted? I usually start by focusing on distant objects.
[11:11:42] <TheMightyBuzzard> not especially. just slept so hard i forgot how to use them.
[11:13:03] <boru> I sure do wish I had your problem.
[11:13:15] <boru> I think I've had a combined 3 hours of sleep so far this week.
[11:15:00] <TheMightyBuzzard> didn't say long, mind you. only five hours last night.
[11:17:40] <TheMightyBuzzard> anywho, time for a bit of nicotine then off to get the ole dollar's worth out of this gym membership i picked up last week.

[11:22:59] <TheMightyBuzzard> cardio first. wouldn't get much out of weights in my current condition.
[11:24:03] <boru> Why's that?
[11:24:34] <boru> Up your protein and lift heavy weights. Good for shredding fat, and good for everything else.
[11:25:00] <boru> Heavy weights burns calories like no other, and you'll feel great after it.
[11:25:21] <boru> You'll have lots of lactic acid in your muscles for a week or two, but after that, you'll be 5x5.

[15:03:14] <Sulla> Comcast sucks so bad. Back when I first heard about net nutrality it was a "watch out comcast might do this if we dont stop them" and comcast responded by "hey thats a good idea!"
[15:09:48] <AndyTheAbsurd> Comcast has a long history of being a shitty ISP
[15:09:50] <boru> Aye, telcos are scum.
[15:11:10] <Sulla> Finally was able to switch from them to someone else. Caretaking for alzheimers grandma and she needed long distance calling, only comcast offered in our area until recently
[15:11:31] <Sulla> Not that switching makes with any less evil a company
[15:21:51] <AndyTheAbsurd> should I have bought this thing instead of the Synology thing I did buy? https://computers.woot.com

[15:22:22] <boru> Depends. QNAP software is collossal shite.
[15:22:29] <boru> Synology hw is collossal shite.
[15:22:52] <boru> I've a QNAP 8 drive NAS. Installed FreeBSD on it, and it was instantly better.
[15:23:18] <AndyTheAbsurd> Huh...well, maybe I'll use next year's technology money to upgrade.
[15:24:16] <boru> I'll probably build my own, or get a rackmount NAS when I buy one again.
[15:24:46] <AndyTheAbsurd> Yeah, I'd like to go to rackmount equipment but I've really got nowhere to put it.

[15:26:44] <Ingar> boru: I have a Ryzen 7 as NAS ;)
[15:29:30] <boru> You could go for some of those 1/2U mounts, I guess.
[15:29:50] <boru> That reminds me, I need to get a stable OC on my 1950X this evening.
[15:30:14] <boru> I've got it to 4.1GHz. Still a far cry from my 3930K's 5GHz, but for 32 threads...
[15:34:59] <Sulla> So whats the deal with bitcoin, I am finally at a place where I can play with some money but unsure if the "to the moon" meme is real or if I should wait til another crash. Seems odd that this recent spike was triggered by zimbabue
[15:37:38] <AndyTheAbsurd> zimbabwe has had currency issues for years, and Mugabe "voluntarily" stepping down after almost 30 years is a major upheaval for that country.
[15:38:04] <LoRdTAW_> I built a smaller NAS here at work using a Core i3, 16GB ECC, 5x 4TB drives, running FreeNAS. Cost was around $1000. Easy setup but the Windows AD integration was a PITA. Had it running for two years until a recent upgrade to new server hardware to comply with DFARS. Now it sits in the rack doing nothing.
[15:40:05] <AndyTheAbsurd> That said...I am a hardcore Bitcoin skeptic. It is IMO literally the only "money" worse than fiat currency - currency with neither fiat nor any value to back it. The price of BTC is only supported by the belief that BTC is worth money.
[15:40:05] <boru> I need something larger. I've got 32TB in RAIDZ-3, and it's almost full of astronomical data.
[15:40:17] <boru> Rackmount is definitely up next for me.
[15:40:35] <boru> ANd that's not even an entire catalogue, just a local cache.
[15:41:02] <AndyTheAbsurd> boru: you may wish to consider a Backblaze storage pod.
[15:42:18] <boru> What I need to do is launch a mirror into deep space ~10ly away that I can laser fire my data at and treat it as a very large interstellar tape drive.
[15:42:44] <boru> By the time the data returns, we'll probably have better storage.
[15:42:56] <boru> Adjust for Moore's Law.
[15:56:01] <LoRdTAW_> I'd put it out further so by the time it makes its way back, you're already retired and it's someone else's problem.
[15:56:46] * boru chuckles.
[15:57:20] <boru> This data is just for my own personal amusement, so it's not really anyone's problem.
