[11:05:15] <Bytram> Sulla: both Seiko and Citizen are reputable watch companies. I'd put them in the same ballpark as Bullova -- "better" watches. As in, better than, say, Fossil, Michael Kors, Guess, Skagen, Tommy Hilfiger(Ew!), but not up to the quality of, say, Movado, Raymond Weil, Mont Blanc, Rado, and Tissot.
[11:06:25] <Bytram> That said, my experience is that getting service for "top-tier" watches is an exercise in patience. One can easily wait a couple months for a manf to get around to looking at and repairing a waranteed repair...
[11:07:25] <Bytram> Also, be aware that on-line purchases often do NOT get you the manufacturer's warranty. Be absolutely *certain* the seller is an authorized seller of that brand, OW, you are SOL. :(
[11:10:02] <Bytram> As for that, comparing the two, Seiko's warranty is 1 year international, 3 years in the USA; Citizen is 5 years (6 if you register the watch on-line). Of the two, had I to choose, I would lean towards Citizen, these days. Seiko has an incredible reputations, but I think they've lost direction and are somewhat sitting on their laurels. Citizen has been innovating and coming out with some really nice pieces... especially in their
[11:10:02] <Bytram> "Signature Edition" line (/me drools)
[11:10:08] <Bytram> hope that helps!
[11:11:46] <Bytram> Oh, as for the kick-starter... there are so many solid, reputable watch makers out there, I don't see the value in taking the risk that a one-time maker would come up with something durable, water-resistant, accurate -- never mind actually produced the item in the first place.
[11:12:14] <Bytram> I'd recommend sticking with solid names that have been around for a while and have developed a well-earned reputation for quality.
[11:13:49] <Bytram> I mean, you can get a digital LCD watch for ~$50 that tells time just fine. Unless you have money to burn (in which case pls toss some at us!)
[11:14:09] <Bytram> time for me to start getting ready for work... laters!
[11:14:59] <AndyTheAbsurd> the problem with the sub-$50 digital LCD watches - although they do tell time just fine - (at least the ones I've had) is that the plastic straps wear out before the battery dies.
[11:18:15] <Bytram> AndyTheAbsurd: and that is why we have duct tape!
[11:18:19] <Bytram> ;)
[11:20:09] <Bytram> yes, it is often the case that the case holds up fine and the watch strap dies, but at $50 per watch one can just treat 'em as disposable compared to buying a, say, $200+ watch.
[11:20:39] <Bytram> then again, a Timex or Casio, on my wrist is not quite as fashionable as some other styles. =)
[11:20:53] <Bytram> ok, need to get ready for work... ciao for now
