[18:38:55] <janrinok> hi NotSanguine
[18:39:14] <NotSanguine> Hey Janrinok.
[18:39:18] <NotSanguine> How's it going?
[18:39:42] <janrinok> been better, but could be worse :)
[18:39:54] <janrinok> and you?
[18:40:08] <NotSanguine> It can always be worse. And if it can't, you won't care -- you'll be dead. :)
[18:40:25] <NotSanguine> I'm okay.
[18:40:37] <janrinok> good to hear.
[18:40:41] <NotSanguine> It's a beautiful day here. I really should be outside.
[18:40:57] <NotSanguine> Thanks.
[18:41:06] <janrinok> do it - you will benefit from it and it might be raining tomorrow
[18:41:29] <NotSanguine> Quiet here this time of day, I guess.
[18:41:57] <NotSanguine> It is going to rain tomorrow, at least that's what Sally Ann Mosey told me this morning.
[18:42:28] <janrinok> well for me it is mid evening. For the East Coast I suppose it is approaching the end of the day, and for the West Coast I have no idea
[18:42:31] <NotSanguine> There's still a good 5-6 hours of daylight here this time of year. But I definitely will
[18:42:47] <NotSanguine> GMT-5
[18:42:58] <NotSanguine> Or UTC, if you prefer
[18:43:21] <janrinok> don't mind - I'm old enough to understand both and not care about either
[18:43:45] <NotSanguine> It get's late pretty late around here this time of year., to butcher Yogi Berra.
[18:44:04] <janrinok> I had to parse that a few times
[18:44:34] <NotSanguine> THat's probably not a useful cultural reference, or has Yogi's verbal prowess swum the pond?
[18:44:41] <janrinok> yes
[18:45:31] <NotSanguine> We do DST here too, so it's "earlier". Do they have DST in France?
[18:46:09] <NotSanguine> I've never been there in the summertime. I imagine it's even more beautiful
[18:46:34] <janrinok> yes - they sure do
[18:47:09] <NotSanguine> There are folks here who want it abolished. I kind of like it though.
[18:47:25] <janrinok> I like it here, my location is very rural and usually peaceful. It is the early tourist season but they don't bother me here.
[18:47:47] <NotSanguine> When the sun is going down at 2100 or so...wonderful.
[18:48:09] <janrinok> As I say, I get up when I want and go to bed when I want. In that respect life is good.
[18:48:19] <kolie> o/
[18:48:23] <NotSanguine> I too.
[18:48:30] <janrinok> kolie - how's tricks
[18:51:03] <janrinok> I wonder if that greeting has different connotations in the US? Wasn't meant to be, it is pretty standard English I think
[18:52:30] <mechanicjay> not familiar with that one myself...
[18:52:45] <kolie> I'm aware of the phrase but probably most people wouldn't understand it specifically here.
[18:52:50] <kolie> Very not US.
[18:52:56] <kolie> But all good here.
[18:53:05] <kolie> Taking care of some networking issues at work atm.
[18:53:25] <kolie> Just about wrapped that up and getting to my emails.
[18:53:32] <kolie> Might be time for a lunch though.
[18:54:08] <janrinok> I'm ready for switching off soon at the end of my day.
[18:59:18] <kolie> you should teach me the ways of the editor janrinok before it becomes a lost art.
[19:01:44] <janrinok> well it is usually 2 or 3 1-hour lessons on IRC while logged in to the dev server. You have to be able to see the process and follow it through the system. It is not something that is easily described but much easier when you can see the displays and do the task for real. I will work in your tz so that isn't a problem getting on line together
[19:03:08] <janrinok> There is some material that you simply have to read from the wiki. It is not the most riveting stuff but it will tell you a lot and no doubt you will have some questions.
[19:04:19] <janrinok> I am still editing but I have reduced my workload. There will be less on the front pages each day. If my opinion or experience isn't listened to I am not going to bust a gut maintaining a self-imposed workload.
[19:06:30] <janrinok> I am not quite as experienced as Bytram - I hope he reaches his 11,111. I am at a 7,877 stories at the moment.
[19:07:35] <janrinok> There are other editors who know how it works but whether they have the current spare capacity is not for me to say.
[19:19:49] <kolie> Sure.
[19:20:59] <kolie> I'd like to do it right so definitely in for that. And I continue to make headway on dev.
[19:22:17] <NotSanguine> I second janrinok's recommendations.
[19:22:43] <NotSanguine> Learning to be an editor isn't hard, but there's lots of details.
[19:44:33] -!- NotSanguine has quit [Quit: Nettalk6 - www.ntalk.de]
[20:08:28] <Bytram> janrinok: I'm familiar with at least two meanings for how's tricks... one of which is not appropriate for mixed company ;)
[20:09:43] <Fnord666> Lol
[20:10:36] <Bytram> Fnord666: o/
[20:38:35] <kolie> lol Bytram the first thing that came to mind.
[20:38:45] <kolie> pullin tricks in the caddy out back.
[20:39:02] <kolie> pullin or turning depending on your region
[20:39:15] <kolie> Only turning I do is metal.
[20:40:09] <Bytram> lol!

[22:34:09] <chromas> Are you manually typing in your password?
[22:48:51] <chromas> I'm actually still waiting for the creation of systemd-password
[22:49:36] <chromas> They have a tool for editing /etc/hostname
[22:51:08] <mechanicjay> you can't touch files directly, you know. That would be bad (tm).
[22:51:51] <mechanicjay> Suse's YAST kind of has that problem. -- Super convient for managing tons of stuff...but sometime you just want to edit a file, but that might make YAST choke on the next run
[22:51:57] <mechanicjay> I fixed this problem by moving to gentoo
[22:52:47] <chromas> I wish yast could integrate into the DE control panels
[22:54:32] <chromas> I was on suse until I came here and you guys got me to switch to arch btw
[22:55:07] <chromas> Suse's default sudo config is kinda retarded though
[23:19:52] <kolie> lol
[23:20:14] <kolie> dont miss yast at all
[23:21:07] <mechanicjay> I started w/ Suse and YAST was a really gentle introduction into linux adminstration. At some point, it just became limiting though.
[23:23:21] <chromas> What we really need is a binary-encoded XML config database served up by multiple dbus services
[23:25:10] <chromas> Every application gets its own nspawn container with all the dependencies because sharing shared libs is archaic
